“ATTENTION CHASE DEBIT CARD USERS who are currently receiving SSA, OPM or VA benefits via a CHASE debit card
The CHASE debit card program will be discontinued effective of 12/12/2014, no payments will be credited to any CHASE card after this date. The cards will still be active and users will be able to withdraw or charge money until further notice. Chase will notify all their clients of the final deactivation date of the cards, After that, if there is any residual amounts of money on the account CHASE will issue a check to their clients. If you are currently receiving your SSA, OPM or VA benefits via a CHASE debit card SSA is planning to revert back to paper check beginning with the 01/02/2015 payment. These are the available options:
1. Have your benefits deposited into a US Bank account
2. Continue to receive your benefits via paper check
3. Apply for a Direct Express Debit card directly by visiting the following website: http://redirect.state.sbu/?url=https://www.usdirectexpress.com/edcfdtclient/index.html
Note, SSA is actively working with Treasury Department on expanding the available payment options in your country, and will inform the Public as soon as they are made available.”
Federal Benefits Information
The Embassy strongly encourages recipients of federal benefit checks such as social security to use direct deposit whenever possible. Direct deposit is faster and more secure. If direct deposit is not available, the Social Security Administration and other federal benefits agencies may send checks via the Embassy in Antananarivo to be forwarded to the recipients.
To apply for Social Security or other federal benefits, please first check the website of the Social Security Administration and then contact the Embassy in Antananarivo.
Please note that the U.S. Department Of States highly recommends those who do not have Social Security Number to apply for one as soon as possible. SSN is required for any Citizenship Services.
